Karin Wallin...
...grew up among
dancing, dance research and singing
relatives and is a self-taught traditional
fiddler.
Early on, there was a great interest in
playing to dance, Skåne songs to the Skåne
folk dance tradition that Father Börje
Wallin researched. Here, it was a question
of getting a dance rhythm, swing and drive
that suited the dancers.
Karin has also been awarded the Zornmarket
in gold with the motivation: “For masterful,
danceable and personal playing of songs from
Skåne”.
She plays violin, 5-string violin and viola
d'amore and is hired as a soloist for
concerts or dance performances.

Together we will strive for the playing
style from the past, where flat bridges and
retuned violins made it possible to play
double-stringed so that a lone fiddler could
make himself heard.
My music should feel light on the
dancers’ backs, not too hard and not too
loose, but just right so that they feel the
help to easily get around and forward. And I
will create a swing and a drive that lifts and
gives lightness.
In our course we will explore how to achieve
that.
